GOLDEN – Visiting and 17th-ranked Colorado Mesa captured wins in eight of 10 bouts en route to a 36-7 victory over the Colorado School of Mines wrestling team in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual action on Wednesday evening at Volk Gymnasium. 

The loss closed the regular season for Mines (0-6, 0-6 RMAC), who will next be in action on Feb. 28-March 1 at the RMAC / Super Region Four Championships at Brownson Arena in Grand Junction. 

The Orediggers got a pair of victories from freshman Jacob Gerken (7-6) at 141 and senior Josh Brown (10-13) at 174 pounds. 

After CMU (9-5, 4-3 RMAC) captured wins in the first five matches (184-133) for a 24-0 lead, Gerkin stopped the streak with a 10-1 major decision over Brandon Kittle to cut the deficit to 24-4.

The Mavericks took wins at 149, 157 and 165 for a 36-3 lead before Brown closed out his final dual at Volk Gymnasium with a rousing 7-3 decision over Willy Holdren for his 10th victory of the year, bringing the score to final at 36-7. 

Along with Brown, Wednesday's matchup served as the final home dual for Robby Schultheis and Chance Davis.
