Fast Start Fuels Wrestling To First RMAC Win

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Colorado School of Mines wrestling opened with three straight results, including consecutive falls by freshmen Zachary Gracia and Caleb Micho, and survived a surging New Mexico Highlands for its initial RMAC dual win, 24-18, on Friday at the John A. Wilson Complex.

Gracia pinned Trevor Perez in 5:46 at 125 pounds and Micho ousted Tre Humphrey in 2:36 at 133. The duo was followed by a 6-4 decision from sophomore 141-pounder Jacob Gerken over Dan Gaylor as the Orediggers (4-4, 1-3 RMAC) claimed a 15-0 margin.

The teams exchanged decisions with redshirt sophomore John Crowley prevailing against Jesse Martinez via a 3-1 score at the 157-pound class.

NMHU (7-6, 2-4 RMAC) scored two decisions and a pin to draw within 18-15, before junior Paul Wilson put the match out of reach with a first-period fall of Jermey Misailegalu in 2:35 at 197.

Mines completes its weekend road trip at 6 p.m. Saturday against Adams State at Plachy Hall in Alamosa.
