Grotz, Haist Lead #20 Mines Past CCU

GOLDEN, Colo. - Three second-half goals helped #20 Colorado School of Mines stay perfect in RMAC play with a 3-0 win over Colorado Christian.

The red-hot Orediggers (7-2-0, 5-0-0 RMAC) won their seventh consecutive game, and moved five points clear at the top of the RMAC table with MSU Denver's loss to Regis on Friday.

John Haist and Nikolaus Grotz each had a goal and an assist as Mines overcame a frustrating first half to open it up after the break. Haist created the opener just 1:06 into the second half with an audacious backheel pass to Grotz, who split a pair of defenders and beat the goalkeeper to the far post to put Mines ahead. Haist later scored his RMAC-best 11th goal of the season off a set piece in the 63rd minute, with Grotz's corner to Jason Zobott at the far post slotted back across the box for Haist's finish.

An unlucky defensive play by CCU resulted in Mines' third goal, as Ashi Geberkidane sent a cross into the box that was misplayed by Eduard Shevchuk for an own goal.

Mines dominated possession, allowing only a single shot to the Cougars as they outshot them 27-1, including 19-0 in the second half. Collin Hall had a single save as he picked up his fourth consecutive shutout.

The Orediggers stay home to host MSU Denver Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
