Kleynhans Shines on Senior Night

GOLDEN, Colo. – Senior Amy Kleynhans scored a career-high 11 points Saturday as the Colorado School of Mines Women's Basketball team took down New Mexico Highlands in a 63-51 win on senior night.
 
Kleynhans previous career high was seven points against Adams State Jan. 28, 2017. She shot 5-for-9 from the field with one rebound. Heidi Hammond also scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the winning effort. In their final regular-season home game, Mines' seniors Emily Bailey, Caitlyn Smith, Elizabeth Tomon, Katie Kuhn, Paige Husa and Kleynhans combined for 27 points and 23 rebounds. New Mexico Highlands' Savannah Madrid-Andrews led all scorers with 20 points.
 
The Orediggers (17-9, 14-6 RMAC) led from start to finish as they outrebounded NMHU (4-20, 2-17) 55-20. Mines led by as many as 15 in the second period and did not look back, 42 percent from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point range in the second half.
 
NOTABLES
- Hammond matched her career high with 11 points. She also scored 11 against Colorado Christian Feb. 11, 2017.
- Tomon led all players with nine rebounds.
- The Orediggers outscored the Cowgirls off the bench, 39-11.
- Mines dominated the paint, scoring 36 points in the lane to NMHU's 14.
- The Orediggers sit in a tie with Black Hills State for third place in the RMAC standings. The top four teams host a first-round game in the RMAC Tournament.
- Head Coach Brittany Simpson is 94-75 in six seasons at Mines.
