ALAMOSA, Colo. – Ben Overholt scored his third game-winning goal of the season Sunday to give the Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team a 1-0 win over Adams State at ASU Soccer Field.
Overholt finished the game with two shots, converting his attempts into goals at a rate of 50 percent.
Talon Stanley served up his third assist of the season.
John Haist led all players with eight shots while
Drew Johnson needed just one save to get the win in goal, improving to 6-1-0 on the year and in his career.
Mines' lone goal was not for lack of trying. The Orediggers (7-1-0, 4-0 RMAC) produced 16 shots compared to just four from Adams State (0-6-1, 0-2-2 RMAC). Mines closed out the match with four shots on frame while the Grizzlies only put one on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Overholt struck early for the Orediggers, in the 11th minute. His goal came off a run through the middle of the penalty area as Stanley lofted a pass over the Grizzlies defenders. The service landed at Overholt's feet and he knocked it home as ASU's goalkeeper came to challenge just a fraction of a second too late.
It proved to be all Mines needed to get the win. The Orediggers closed out the first half with eight shots and took eight more in the second period. Adams State upped its output in the second half with three attempts and numerous serves across the mouth of the goal. However, timing was not on the Grizzlies' side as the passes went to no one.
