ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Women's Basketball team got its first road win of the season Friday night as the Orediggers cruised to a 59-48 win over Adams State inside Plachy Hall Gym.
Denali Pinto led Mines' charge with 13 points. She also added six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal to complete a well-rounded night.
Courtney Stanton added 10 points in her first double-digit performance of the season. On the boards it was
Raven Herrera leading all players with nine rebounds.
Nicole Archambeau and
Anna Kollmorgen each dished out four assists and
Heidi Hammond went 3-for-5 from three-point range.
The Orediggers (7-6, 4-4 RMAC) controlled the game in nearly every facet, incuding a 40-26 advantage in the rebounding category. Adams State (1-11, 1-7 RMAC) extends its slump to nine straight losses despite a game-high 18 points from Stephanie Ruiz. Mines limited the Grizzlies to just 34.7 percent shooting from the floor and 35 percent from three-point range.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines didn't quite lead from wire-to-wire. However, the Orediggers did come close. Pinto put the visitors on the board first with a layup 28 seconds into the game. Adams State responded with a three-point basket for its one, and only, lead of the game. The Grizzlies held that advantage for less than half a minute as Stanton came back with a layup at 8:54 and the race was on.
The first half was nearly all Pinto as she finished the first quarter with five points and scored five more in the second period.
Cassidy Budge joined in the scoring fun, dropping a pair of three-pointers on two attempts to help the Orediggers to a 31-21, halftime lead.
In the second half, Mines brought a well-balanced attack, going 10-for-28 from the floor with just seven attempts from three-point land. Stanton and Hammond each scored six while Herrera, Kollmorgen and
Megan Van de Graaf each scored four. Defensively, the Orediggers closed out the game limiting ASU to just one three-point basket on 20-percent shooting in the final 20 minutes.
