Defense Dominates Again For #8 Mines At Regis

DENVER - Brendan Sullivan's 20 points and another shutdown defensive performance led #8 Colorado School of Mines past Regis, 73-50, on Thursday.

The Orediggers moved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2017-18 season and improved to 2-0 in RMAC play. They once again put their stifling defense on display, holding Regis to to just 29.1 percent shooting overall

Sullivan shot 8-of-15 overall on his way to 20 points, while Titus Reed came off the bench for 14 points and Kobi Betts chipped in 10. The Orediggers shot 9-of-15 for three - including three makes each for Sullivan and Reed - while shooting a healthy 56 percent overall for the game. Brian Dawson led Regis with 18 points.

Mines never trailed in the game, starting on an 8-0 run and never looking back. By the time Reed hit his first three-pointer of the game at the 13:26 mark, Mines' lead was already double digits, and it would extend to as much as 15 on an Austin Means layup, but Regis' best stretch of the game came in the final four minutes of the half with a 7-0 run cutting the lead back to single digitals before Ben Boone's free throw and three-pointer set it at 39-27 going into the break.

The Orediggers stepped on the gas to start the second half as Betts' jumper followed by seven straight Sullivan points made up a 9-0 stretch, and that put the visitors up 21, 50-29, less than four minutes into the half. The lead stayed there for the rest of the afternoon as Regis was held to 26.9 percent shooting in the second half including just 1-for-11 for three.

- With the Mines women's nailbiting 50-48 win later in the day at Regis, both programs are 3-0 together for the first time ever.
- The second-oldest continuous series dating back to 1925 for Mines basketball, Regis' all-time series lead was cut to 68-66 with the win. The Orediggers have won three straight.
- Mines outrebounded Regis 37-29 led by Michael Glen (8) and Austin Means (6).
- The game marked the season debut of redshirt senior Mason Baker, who came off the bench to score seven points with two steals and three boards.
