BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The opposition struck in the 83rd minute on Thursday night which resulted in a 1-0 loss for the Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team at Western Washington.
Both teams finished dead even at 11 shot attempts apiece. Mines'
George Marchant led the effort in that area with three shots of his own including one on goal. The Orediggers (3-2-0) also held a 3-2 advantage in corner-kick opportunities. However, the difference came in saves. Mines put five shots on goal and Western Washington (1-2-0) recorded five saves. Meanwhile, the Vikings only put two shots on goal but the Orediggers only made on save.
Drew Farnsworth scored the game-winning goal for the home team.
Kenneth Symmes (1-1-0) made his second career start in goal for the Orediggers and wore the loss despite one save and 90 minutes of action. Both teams combined to receive a total of four yellow cards as a total of 28 fouls were whistled during the match. Farnworth's tally came on a free kick from 25 yards out.
NOTABLES
- Mines is now 1-2-0 in the all-time series against Western Washington. The last meeting also featured a late goal that went in favor of the Vikings.
- Thursday marked the first time the Orediggers have been shut out since the 2019 season finale featuring a 0-0 draw with Regis at Stermole Stadium.
- Mines hasn't suffered a shutout loss since the NCAA Tournament in 2018.
