#4 Mines Falls at Regis

DENVER, Colo. – One early goal in each period on Wednesday afternoon led to a 2-1 loss for the #4-ranked Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team at Regis.

Lucas King scored Mines' lone goal. The strike was King's only shot attempt of the match. Azad Iliozer led all players with four shots with one of those going on goal. Patrick Allan and John Burnett attempted multiple shots as well. No Oredigger collected more than one shot on goal. Defensively, Brian Doherty (2-1-0) played all 90 minutes as Mines' goalkeeper and took the loss despite making four saves.

As a team, the Orediggers (2-1-0) had more than double the attempts of Regis (2-0-0), but the shots-on-goal category was much closer with Mines holding a narrow, 7-6 advantage. The visitors also boasted a 5-2 advantage in corner-kick opportunities, but could not find the back of the net. Wednesday's match marked the Orediggers' third contest in six days while Regis was playing its second match of the season which opened Sunday. Kristian Hooker and Ethan Wilson were the Rangers' goal scorers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wednesday afternoon at the Regis Match Pitch greeted both teams with late-summer heat, smoky skies and a cool breeze. The Rangers wasted no time capitalizing on the home-field advantage and quickly took a 1-0 lead just 4:12 into the match. Over the next 41 minutes, the contest took on a shade of feisty as one yellow card was issued to each team. Even still, the Orediggers evened the match in the 45th minute with 20 seconds on the clock thanks to free kick off the foot of King that curved inside the left post for a 1-1 score at halftime.

After the break, Regis quickly struck again, less than four minutes into the second frame and reclaimed a 2-1 lead. Mines followed up with a seven-shot onslaught, and the feisty nature continued with three more yellow cards between the two teams. However, the early second-half strike would make the final tally as the Orediggers saw their undefeated start to the season come to a close.
