OREDIGGERS RETURN HOME TO HOST REGIS
After two weeks away, Colorado School of Mines returns to Joe Coors, Jr. Field to host local rival Regis this weekend in a four-game RMAC series. As is traditional on Easter weekend, the series will be played Friday (noon) and Saturday (11 a.m.). Friday's games will be the Orediggers' annual
NFCA Strikeout Cancer Day, with the team wearing special pink uniforms, and Saturday will see both Mines and Regis wear yellow shoelaces to support
Go4theGoal Foundation and the fight against pediatric cancer.Â
GAME COVERAGE
Every conference and home game this season will stream live and for free on the RMAC Network, which has relaunched for  the 2021-22 school year. Fans used to watching on their smart TV or other device must download the new app by searching "RMAC" in your device's app store. The new watch portal is available at
minesathletics.com/tv or
rmacnetwork.com. Miles Dunklin will have the call on the RMAC Network this weekend.Â
THE FORECAST
Both Friday and Saturday will have plenty of sunshine and highs in the 60s, with breezy conditions on Friday.Â
LAST TIME OUT
Mines suffered a sweep at the hands of co-league leader Colorado Christian last weekend in Lakewood. The Orediggers were led at the plate by home runs from
Cassidy Chvatal,
Sara Larson, and
Ellaena Rodriguez, and both
Lauren Decker and
Kayleigh Krueger had hits in all four games of the series.Â
IN THE HUNT
Despite the losses at CCU, Mines is still well-positioned in the hunt for the postseason. At 13-13 in the RMAC, the Orediggers occupy the sixth and final playoff spot with Fort Lewis (12-16) behind them in seventh. Regis is 19-9 and in third place heading into the weekend. A dozen games remain in the regular season and Mines will play eight against teams below .500 as they visit Chadron State (5-21) and Black Hills State (8-20) to finish the regular season.
LEADING THE WAY
The Orediggers' bats have gotten hot over the past few weeks and Mines is hitting .326 as a team in RMAC play. Freshman
Hannah Roberts is hitting a team-best .365 with a .928 OPS, driving in 12 RBI with 14 runs scored this season.
Renata Boyd is hitting .356 out of the leadoff spot scoring a team-high 23 runs, while
Sidney Wilson has been one of Mines' most consistent bats through conference play hitting .356 with 19 RBI and 13 walks.
Lauren Decker (.353) carries a six-game hitting streak into this weekend, while
Sara Larson (.343) leads the team in RBI (26) and slugging (.576). In the circle
Sadriena Rodriguez and
Cassidy Chvatal are the team's leaders in ERA with Rodriguez notching a 3.54 ERA, 4-6 record, and .260 opposing average with Chvatal sporting a 4.88 ERA, 4-7 record, and .305 average.
SCOUTING THE RANGERS
Regis is 25-18 overall and 19-9 in the RMAC coming off a sweep of CSU Pueblo last weekend. The Rangers rank in the top half of the conference in team batting (.308) and slugging (.518) led by Allisha Martinez (.391/.805, 11 HR, 46 RBI) and Jessi Case (.381/.769, 11 HR, 32 RBI). The Rangers also lead the RMAC in walks by a wide margin averaging 3.7 per game. Kylie Harpman (3.27 ERA, 14-7) is the staff ace pitching twice as many innings (126.1) as the next hurler on the staff, Abby Covington (5.64, 4-5 in 63.1 IP).Â
Mines and Regis have met 140 times with Regis leading the series 102-38 dating back to 190. Recent meetings have gone the Orediggers' way, however, as they have won eight of 12 games dating back to 2017. The two did not play a regular-season series last year due to a COVID-19 pause, but met in the first round of the RMAC Tournament where Mines won 5-2 behind
Sydney Marchando's strong start and
Sidney Wilson's three RBI day.
LOOKING AHEAD
Mines visits Chadron State next weekend before returning home to finish the regular season against Black Hills State on April 29-30.Â
