The Colorado School of Mines Men's Rugby Club opened their fall season on September 7 with a tough test against Air Force Academy's A-Side, a nationally recognized Division I program. Despite the challenge, the Orediggers showed grit and promise in a 5–45 loss.
Scrumhalf and captain Max Cisneros led a determined Mines side that was not afraid to take on the physicality of Air Force. The highlight of the match came from Patrick McBrayer, who scored his first career try and the lone points of the day for Mines. The forward pack stood out as a dominant and exciting unit, battling hard at the breakdowns and in set pieces throughout the match.
While the scoreline reflected Air Force's experience and D1 caliber, the Orediggers were pleased with their performance in the season opener. Competing against one of the toughest opponents they will see this year set a high bar for the season ahead, and the squad is confident the experience will push them to grow stronger each week.
Mines, a Division III contender with national aspirations, remains focused on building momentum and depth as the season progresses. With continued effort and development, the Orediggers are looking to once again be a threat at the D3 national level.
