Mines Tripped Up by Hot-Shooting Lady Buffs

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Women's Basketball team hung tough against #7 West Texas A&M, but ultimately couldn't slow down the hot-shooting Lady Buffs in a 84-73 non-conference game at Lockridge Arena.

The Lady Buffs (3-0) used a late run to put the game away after the Orediggers (1-2) closed to within seven points in the fourth quarter. WT shot a red-hot 50.9 percent for the game, including 12-of-24 for three.

Four Orediggers scored in double digits led by Anna Kollmorgen's 21 and Denali Pinto's 16-point collegiate debut. Nicole Archambeau added 11 points and eight boards. Lucy Burke led WT with 17 points.

Mines kept in touch much of the game despite the Buffs shooting 60 percent in the first quarter and 57.1 percent in the second. WT slowly built its lead, however, and were up 47-38 at the half. The Orediggers came out of the break with a Madelene McDonald layup. Pinto's and-one to cut it to 50-43 after a Haynes three-pointer, but every time the Mines got some momentum going, the visitors answered as they never trailed by less than seven in the second half.

Mines made a little run to start the fourth quarter after Kollmorgen hit back-to-back off-balance buckets to cut the deficit to 68-61, but the Lady Buffs answered with an 8-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 80-65 in the closing minutes.
