GAME 1 - ADAMS STATE 14, MINES 3
Sunday's opener got away from Colorado School of Mines as two big innings by Adams State gave them a 14-3 win in five innings.
The Grizzlies scored four in the second and nine in the third to run away with the game after the Orediggers had taken an early 2-0 lead.
Mines was led by two-hit games from
Lauren Decker,
Sidney Wilson and Sarah Larson, with Larson and
Claire Smith smacking doubles. ASU had five players with multi-RBI games led by Belinda Vergas' 3-for-4, 2-RBI day.
Wilson's single and an error allowed Decker to score before Larson doubled in Wilson to take the 2-0 lead in the first, but Adams State responded with Vargas' RBI single to make it 2-1 in the first, then led 5-2 on RBI base hits by Emma Wilder, Jade Garbiso, Sydney Muniz, and Breck Smith in the second. Things unraveled in the third as six Grizzly hits and three Mines errors led to a long nine-run inning for ASU, keyed by Kylea Wall's two-run triple.
Mines' third run came on Smith's double to plate
Kailey Robb in the fourth.
Taylor Sandoval (3-7) earned the win for ASU in 3.1 innings of work as Tayler Duncan pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless cleanup. Decker (4-5) took the loss allowing five runs for Mines, with
Taylor Wayne surrendering nine runs (five earned) in an inning of relief.
Sadriena Rodriguez calmed the game with 1.1 innings of no-hit ball.
GAME 2 - MINES 8, ADAMS STATE 4
Mines finished Sunday with a win to take three games out of the weekend series, capitalizing on Adams State mistakes to win 8-4.
Trystin Oshiro-Sano homered and
Kayleigh Krueger and
Grace Gonzales had doubles to key the Mines offense, which took advantage of four ASU errors in the game.
Cassidy Chvatal (4-5) picked up the win in 6.1 innings of work with three strikeouts, and
Sadriena Rodriguez got the final two outs in a non-save situation. Jade Garbiso went the distance in the loss for ASU, but only one of her eight runs allowed was earned.Â
Kailey Robb's single and an error allowed Krueger to score for the lead as part of a four-run third inning that included
Renata Boyd scoring on an error and Oshiro-Sano hitting a two-run round trip in the extended inning for a 4-0 lead. Another Grizzly error on Chvatal's flyout in the fourth let
Lexie Semeyn cross to go up 5-0, and after an ASU run in the bottom half, Krueger doubled in
Sara Larson to make it a 6-1 game after the top of the sixth.
ASU tried to mount a comeback as Belinda Vargas' sacrifice fly and RBI hits from Garbiso and Andrea Cline put three runs across, but Mines generated two insurance runs in the seventh as
Emilee Sloan scored on a failed pickoff attempt and a wild pitch let
Lauren Decker across.Â
