ALAMOSA, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines picked up a much-needed dual win as they came from behind to defeat Adams State 20-15 on the road.
The Orediggers rallied back from a 12-3 deficit with four wins over the final five bouts, including a tech fall by #8
Jacob Gerken and
Robert Gambrell's match-winning pin at 174 pounds to win it.Â
Starting at 184, ASU jumped out to a 12-3 lead with four wins in the opening five matches with only
Jake Feldman's 3-1 sudden-victory win over Tili Laulu providing Mines any points.
Lukas Erickson began the turnaround with an 8-5 decision over Dylan Udero at 141, and Gerken dominated in a 15-0 shutout of Sherod Bride to cut the lead to 12-11. Mines went ahead on
Ethan Ruby's decision against Gavis Davy, 7-5, but ASU's Isaac Lopez edged
Keenan Willits, 6-5, in the penultimate match at 165 to go up 15-14.
That meant the final bout at 174 pounds would be winner-take-all, and Gambrell made no doubt as he pinned Koery Windham 44 seconds into the second period after taking an 8-1 lead.
Mines will next head to the RMAC Championships on Feb. 4 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
