#1 Mines Shuts Down Westminster, 63-50

GOLDEN, Colo. - It wasn't always pretty, but #1 Colorado School of Mines did what it needed to do down the stretch to remain unbeaten with a grinding 63-50 win over Westminster.

The Orediggers (13-0, 12-0) had all five starters score in double figures while holding the Griffins (7-9, 7-9 RMAC) to just 50 points. The two teams combined for 37 turnovers.

Ben Boone and Brendan Sullivan each scored 11 to lead the way as Austin Means, Michael Glen, and Kobi Betts all had 10. Joey Andrews led the Griffins with 11 points and Taylor Miller provided 10 off the bench.

Mines flipped around a dismal first half shooting .296 to make .550 in the second half, and foul shooting was key as the home side made 18-of-21 attempts (.857) to Westminster's 11-of-19 night (.579).

It was a tie game at halftime, 26-26, following Westminster's 9-0 run to close a first half that had Mines up as much as 10. The Griffins briefly led early in the second half, but an 8-2 run that included threes from Betts and Boone put some breathing room into the game at 41-37 midway through the half. The bench produced with Titus Reed's three-point play at the 8:16 mark to make it 47-42, and Trent Dykema followed that up with a three to lead 50-44; Means' jumper with 4:14 left sparked a 7-0 run to ultimately put the game away, and Mines' largest lead came at the buzzer up 63-50.
