ALAMOSA, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines wrestling suffered its first loss of the season, running up against a tough opponent in #6 Adams State in a 26-15 dual.
The Orediggers (5-1, 1-1 RMAC) received four wins from
Anderson Salisbury,
Deandre Rucker,
Grayston DiBlasi, and
Jack Damenti, but ASU's bonus points made their advantage too steep to overcome.
ASU got off to on the right foot with Hunter Tobiasson's first-period pin out of a scramble against
Ryan Cody at the starting weight of 184 pounds, but the Orediggers quickly took the lead as Salisbury bean Ben Tonnessen 8-5 and
Deandre Rucker needed just 1:36 to pin Adam Alvarenga at 285 for a 9-6 lead.
The match of the afternoon came at 125 pounds where
Christian Lopez took #3 Brendon Garcia to sudden victory in a wild bout with 28 combined points. Lopez led 8-5 after a takedown to near-fall in the first period, but Garcia chipped away at the lead and found three third-period takedowns to force sudden victory tied at 13; Garcia then won it in the extra period on a takedown 15-13. Isaiah DeLaCerda then defeated
Weston DiBlasi, wrestling up a weight at 133, by fall in the third period after a match that featured an unusual four reversals; DiBlasi trailed just 6-5 at the finish.

Grayston DiBlasi got some points back on a 6-5 win over Kieran Thompson, and
Teague Dilbeck wrestled a heartfought match against defending national champion and #3 Josiah Rider at 149 in a 4-1 loss. #1 Noah Hermosillo, another defending national champ, beat
Daniel Caddy by technical fall at 157 to lead 23-12 with two matches to go meaning Mines needed two straight pins to win;
Jack Damenti got the win 9-4 at 165 over Nico Carrsco, but the Grizzlies clinched the dual anyway rendering Samuel Loera's 7-3 win over
Levi Farris at 174 moot in the team score.
NOTABLES
- Salisbury won his 76th career match which ties him for 11th all-time at Mines.

Grayston DiBlasi and
Jack Damenti remained perfect in dual action this season at 6-0. DiBlasi has scored 29 points out of a possible 36 to lead the team.
- The Grizzlies' win snapped a six-dual winning streak in the series by the Orediggers.

Mines will head south to New Mexico Highlands on Sunday for a 2 p.m. meet.
